**Job summary**:
A leading educational institution is currently looking for a Director of Government Affairs to be based in Ho Chi Minh City.

This Director of Government Affair role is responsible for managing client's relationships with the Vietnamese government and the United States Mission in Vietnam.

**Responsibilities**:
Advising the Leadership
- Provides support and advice to the President and other senior university leaders on all matters related to government affairs;
- Assists the President carry out his/her responsibilities as the university’s chief representative by providing detailed briefings in advance of meetings with government representatives and by accompanying the President to meetings with government representatives;
Maintaining Strategically Important Relationships
- Maintains productive, lasting relationships with strategically important government agencies based on trust, transparency, and mutual understanding; maintains an ongoing dialog with government counterparts on matters relating to the university’s academic activities and institutional development;
Monitoring Policy Changes
- Follows closely the evolving legal and regulatory environment in those areas that affect client’s mission and activities and to represent the university;
Serving as the University’s Government Affairs Advisor
- Provides guidance and support to departments of the university on matters pertaining to government relations;
- Serving as a Primary Point of Contact for the US Mission;
- Client enjoys a multi-stranded relationship with the US Embassy, the Consulate General, and USAID involving multiple units of the university. The Director’s role is to serve as a default point of contact for requests and inquiries from the US Mission;
Other duties:

- Contributing to team success by welcoming new and different professional challenges; pursuing opportunities to enhance and improve existing operations; partnering with colleagues to achieve shared goals; and performing other duties as assigned.;
**Experience requirements**:

- Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience.
- Exceptional written and oral communications skills in Vietnamese and English.
- A track record of effective leadership and creative problem-solving.
- Prior experience working with and/or for Vietnamese government agencies is highly desirable.
- Excellent judgment and a sophisticated understanding of the Vietnamese public sector.
- Ability to oversee a broad portfolio of responsibilities and projects and to produce high-quality work under pressure.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in diverse, fast-moving environments.
- Ability to travel regularly within Vietnam.

**Education requirements**:
A master’s degree in public policy, law, public administration, or similar field is desirable.
