About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist to join our Light Microscopy Innovation Hub at Altos Labs. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the development of our scientific programs and provide expert guidance on light microscopy experiments.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced technical guidance and mentorship to scientists in all phases of light microscopy experimentation, including experimental design, microscope operation, and image analysis.
  • Engage with PI research labs to understand their science and anticipate upcoming LM needs, suggesting complimentary LM experimental approaches when appropriate.
  • Stay up-to-date with advances in light microscopy methods and technologies to bring new solutions to Altos as needed.
  • Establish training programs, best practices, and user-friendly protocols for the operation of advanced light microscopes with customized platforms.
  • Provide education and assistance to scientists in the analysis of microscope images using tools such as Zen, Elements, Arivis, Napari, Fiji, and other software, facilitating the handoff of image analysis problems to the Computer Vision team when necessary.
  • Assist the Hub Director in refining and actualizing the vision for this innovation hub, providing inspired leadership in the LM technical area in service of the Altos mission and the excellent scientists who work at Altos.
Requirements
  • PhD in a related field, such as Cell Biology, Life Sciences, or Physics.
  • 8+ years of experience developing and managing multiple microscope systems in a scientific environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of light microscopy image visualization, analysis, and processing.
  • Scientific experience commensurate to understanding relevant projects at Altos to provide expert guidance for light microscopy experiments.
  • Deep expertise in advanced microscopy techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to teach and interact with scientists in the field of microscopy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Nikon elements expertise.
  • Hardware integration necessary for confocal microscopy.
  • Literacy in Python and Jupyter notebooks.
  • Advanced image segmentation.
