Join Our Team as a Research Associate, Histology

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Associate, Histology to join our team at Altos Labs. As a key member of our Science Integration, Innovation and Insights department, you will play a critical role in supporting our multidisciplinary teams at the Altos Bay Area Institute.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical histology support for day-to-day operations, including setup and breakdown of routine histology equipment.
  • Perform microtomy, cryotomy, embedding, manual routine and special histological stains.
  • Support research activities under the supervision of a Scientist and Histology Hub Lead.
  • Maintain accurate records in inventory and sample tracking software systems.
  • Operate laboratory equipment, prepare reagents, perform experimental procedures, record and consolidate research data, and execute planned research activities using observation, measurement, and analytical techniques.
  • Adhere to safe laboratory procedures set by Altos.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field such as Biology, Life Sciences.
  • 3-5 years of experience in industry or academia, with 2-3 years' experience with standard histology techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge in the processing of human and laboratory animal tissues.
  • Expertise with a wide variety of histology staining procedures.
  • Ability to multitask and work across multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • HT or HTL (ASCP) certified.
  • Knowledge and experience of immunohistochemistry techniques and other methods of tissue-based expression analysis.
  • Using automated slide scanning to capture digital brightfield and fluorescence slide images.
  • High level of computer literacy to maintain electronic records.
  • Strong communication skills, with proven ability to work with diverse and cross-functional teams.
