Your role

The Manager, Technical Services will provide leadership and operational management to SCD facilities, technical support team and services. The position will ensure that the School’s technical support staff are appropriately skilled, trained, and adequately resourced to ensure an exemplary standard of customer service. The Manager, Technical Services must stay updated on developments in their professional field; education, research and administration within RMIT University; and relevant Occupational Health & Safety guidelines.

Key accountabilities- Lead and manage the SCD’s technical facilities and operations.- Manage the provision and supervision of high-level technical support and advice to staff and students in operation and safe use of the Audio Visual (AV) equipment for loan, studios, computer labs, maker space, fashion soft-lab, and other facilities of the School.- Oversee risk management assessments to proactively evaluate the physical environment of the school’s facilities on a regular basis.- Develop and maintain the availability and quality of labs, studios, studio equipment, post-production facilities and equipment for loan to students and staff ensuring appropriate storage and security.- Oversee the technical support for preparation of classrooms and studio facilities for practical classes, and assist academic staff in the delivery of classes.- Oversee the development and management of accurate manuals, records, processes, and policies for loan and inventory systems; ensure that the inventory is well organized and students can borrow equipment in good working order to complete projects.- Provide expert advice for procurement of new equipment, hardware/software tools and materials/components, as well as setting up of equipment/tools service contracts. Lead the evaluation of technology pilots and troubleshoot where necessary to ensure successful completion and deployment.- Develop and manage relationships with vendors for purchasing new equipment and for maintenance of equipment.- Ensure technical workshops and OHS training for students and staff are conducted timely and effectively.- Provide regular reports and propose solutions to the Leadership Team regarding equipment that needs to be repaired or replaced, fines, inventory, and process issues.- Cooperate effectively with the academic and professional team, IT, OHS and Property Services departments when required to ensure a smooth integration and collaboration.- Other duties as directed by line manager.
