Application Operations Manager

1. General

• Oversee the operational support and performance of core banking system applications, ensuring seamless service delivery.
• Lead a team to provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and resolve complex application-related problems.
• Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of critical banking applications to meet business objectives.

2. Application Management

• Manage the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of core banking system applications.
• Monitor application performance metrics, proactively address alerts, and implement solutions to optimize system efficiency.
• Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and vendor teams to resolve issues, implement upgrades, and drive continuous improvement.

3. Documentation

• Ensure comprehensive documentation of operational processes, incident reports, and resolution strategies.
• Maintain accurate records of application configurations, changes, and service level agreements (SLAs).
• Develop and update operational runbooks to support consistent application management practices.

4. Administrative

• Enforce adherence to the financial institution's policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage operational budgets, vendor contracts, and resource allocation for application support activities.

5. Policy

• Ensure compliance with the financial institution's IT policies, security standards, and industry regulations.
• Promote and enforce IT security best practices to maintain a secure and resilient application environment.
• Conduct regular audits to ensure alignment with internal and external compliance requirements.

6. Management Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership to the application operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
• Report regularly to senior IT management on application performance, incidents, and operational improvements.
• Drive initiatives to enhance the stability, scalability, and functionality of core banking applications in collaboration with cross-functional IT teams.

1. Experience:

• Minimum of 5-7 years in IT operations, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or managerial role overseeing application support or operations, preferably in a financial institution.
• Proven experience managing core banking system applications or similar mission-critical systems, including deployment, maintenance, and performance optimization.
• Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams to resolve complex application issues and deliver operational improvements.
• Experience collaborating with development teams, vendors, and stakeholders to implement application upgrades, patches, and enhancements.
• Hands-on experience with incident management, root cause analysis, and ensuring compliance with SLAs in a high-availability environment.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes (e.g., Incident, Problem, and Change Management) or equivalent operational frameworks.
• Prior experience managing budgets, vendor contracts, or operational resources in an IT context.

• Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of core banking systems, application architecture, and IT infrastructure (e.g., databases, servers, cloud platforms).
• Leadership and Management: Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team of application support professionals, fostering collaboration and accountability.
• Problem-Solving: Advanced analytical skills to troubleshoot complex application issues and implement effective solutions under time-sensitive conditions.
• Performance Monitoring: Proficiency in using monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace, or similar) to track application performance and proactively address issues.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with stakeholders, report to senior management, and document processes clearly.
• IT Security and Compliance: Knowledge of IT security practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI-DSS, GDPR, or financial industry standards) to ensure a secure application environment.
• Project Management: Strong organizational skills to manage deployments, upgrades, and operational projects, with familiarity in tools like Jira, ServiceNow, or equivalent.
• Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with development, infrastructure, and business teams to align application operations with organizational goals.
