SNV has been working in Viet Nam since 1995, and currently has over 50 national and international staff. Job Description
Join SNV as Project Manager for the Sustainable Coffee Exchange, a 3-year initiative (2026–2029) co-implemented by SNV and the Management and Sustainable Development Institute (MSD), with funding from EuropeAid.
The project will strengthen adoption and application of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices within the coffee sector in Lam Dong and Son La provinces of Vietnam. Working with 50 MSMEs, cooperatives, business associations, and civil society groups, the project will:
- Build the capacity of MSMEs and cooperatives to adopt improved ESG practices.
- Facilitate access to investment for ESG integration into coffee value chains.
- Strengthen the role of civil society and non-state actors (NSAs) in promoting responsible business.
- Contribute to coffee and environmental platforms for multi-stakeholder dialogue with local government to enable a supportive ecosystem for ESG adoption.
The Project Manager (PM) will provide overall leadership, strategic guidance, and day-to-day management of the project. They will coordinate with partners, ensure timely and high-quality delivery of outputs, manage financial resources, and represent the project to donors, government, and other stakeholders.
Leadership & Management
- Lead overall project management, motivating the project team, partners, and stakeholders towards a shared vision.
- Guide the project set-up, including finalising work plans, budgets, and operational tools.
- Supervise implementation, ensure quality control, and manage project reporting to SNV and EuropeAid.
- Line manage and guide project staff and consultants.
Strategic & Technical Guidance
- Provide technical leadership on ESG adoption strategies in the coffee sector.
- Ensure integration of gender equality, social inclusion, and climate-smart approaches.
- Support development and use of the ESG scorecard, resource hub, and citizen-generated data initiatives.
Partnerships and Consortium Management & Accountability
- Build strong relationship with provincial authorities and lead as government liaison for the project approval and delivery (lead on project document development, consultation and approval with local government stakeholders).
- Partner/consortium management and accountability, ensuring full project delivery in line with project targets.
- Build and manage strong partnerships with MSMEs, business associations, cooperatives, civil society, and provincial/national authorities.
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue platforms, ensuring inclusive participation.
- Organise matchmaking between MSMEs/cooperatives and investors, and support ESG leadership recognition.
Financial & Administrative Oversight
- Ensure sound financial management, budget monitoring, and compliance with donor and SNV requirements.
- Oversee contracts, procurement, and coordination with MSD and other partners.
Monitoring, Reporting & Learning
- Conduct regular monitoring visits and ensure timely achievement of milestones.
- Lead knowledge management, communications, and dissemination of lessons learned.
- Prepare and submit high-quality reports to donor and SNV management.
- Ensure adherence to SNV minimum MEL standards, including reporting on Global Harmonized Indicators, leading pause and reflect exercises, and performance tracking.
- Perform other duties as assigned by line manager.
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in development studies, business management, agriculture, environmental sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of project management experience in development cooperation, with a proven track record in ESG, sustainable business, or responsible value chains.
- Experience working with MSMEs, cooperatives, and civil society organizations in Vietnam and/or Southeast Asia.
- Strong financial management skills and familiarity with donor compliance (EuropeAid preferred).
- Experience leading and managing teams, including line management of (remote) staff and consultants
- Demonstrated ability to foster partnerships across public, private, and civil society stakeholders.
- Strong networking, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
Preferred
- Previous experience in the coffee or agri-food sector.
- Good understanding of market systems development programming and value chain development
- Experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in establishing inclusive business modalities related to gender and ethnic minorities preferred
- Previous experience engaging business associations and other business support agencies
- Understanding of environmental and social safeguards, e.g Environmental and Social Safeguard Assessments, plans and systems
- Strong communication skills in English; proficiency in Vietnamese required.
- Willingness to travel regularly to field locations

Contract Type: Employment contract
Contract Duration: three-year contract, renewable based on performance and funding availability.
