Akila is looking for a Senior AI Engineer who will be engaged into machine learning algorithm and theoretical frontier research which includes machine learning, deep learning and data mining. The candidate will be working across multiple teams and functions for developing cutting edge, creative and advanced AI applications, and processes. You should be comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment where speed, hard work and fresh thinking are critical to success. You will own end-to-end development: problem scoping, model design, engineering, deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and deploy advanced ML models and generative AI to enhance product capabilities.
• Build conversational AI experiences (chatbots, assistants) and productionize LLM-based features (prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, vector search).
• Conduct thorough data analysis and modelling; design experiments, baselines, and evaluation metrics.
• Finetune traditional ML models and modern LLMs (including transfer learning / parameter-efficient updates where applicable).
• Monitor and evaluate model performance in production.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with other AI engineers, backend engineers, product, QA, and leadership.
• Troubleshoot production issues, optimize latency/throughput and cost across infra stacks.
• Implement agile, hands-on approaches in project execution, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to evolving business needs.
• Document designs, communicate complex technical concepts to engineers and non-technical stakeholders in simple words.
• Contribute to the team's knowledge sharing, fostering an environment that values innovative thinking and the exploration of new ideas in Machine Learning.

• Bachelor's or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in ML, data science or software engineering, with significant hands-on experience shipping ML features.
• Strong proficiency in Python and Linux.
• Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization.
• Experience of MLOps and platform building experience is preferred.
• Container & microservice experience: Docker, Kubernetes.
• Experience with SQL + at least one NoSQL DB; familiarity with Redis, Celery, Elasticsearch or similar big-data/streaming tools.
• Good English communication. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred/nice-to-have:
- Experience building conversational AI using LLMs (OpenAI, Llama family, Hugging Face models, etc.).
- Clear concept of LLM capabilities and limitations — able to break down tasks into feasible LLM development steps (prompting, in-context learning, finetuning, RAG, retrieval pipelines).
- Practical experience with GPU acceleration and NVIDIA stack: CUDA, cuDNN, TensorRT, NVIDIA Triton Inference Server, NVIDIA DeepStream.
- Experience developing video analytics pipelines (object detection/tracking, activity recognition), video summarization, or real-time video processing.
- Familiarity with streaming protocols and architectures: RTSP, HLS, WebRTC, frame batching, low latency pipelines.
- Experience finetuning classical ML models and modern LLMs (LoRA, PEFT methods) and understanding tradeoffs.
- Familiarity with observability tools: Prometheus/Grafana, Sentry, ELK stack for logs/metrics.
