The Math & Science Department Head will lead teachers in implementation of curriculum and instructional practices that result in exceptional student achievement and teaching. (S)he is responsible for targeted professional development and assists in the research and implementation of best practices in curriculum and works collaboratively with his or her counterparts at the school.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

The responsibilities of the Math & Science Department Head are, but not limited to, the following:
**Teaching role**:

- Teach Math and Science courses aligned to the Common Core Curriculum
- Provide highly engaging lessons, differentiated instruction strategies, and hands-on and experiential/project-based learning methods
- Inspire and encourage student progress while supporting and strengthening the learning capabilities of each student
- Assessing student needs and providing support or extra resources to struggling students as well as exceptional achievers
- Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth; keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports

**Leadership role**:

- Demonstrates expertise as an effective 6-12 instructional leader who is student centered, able to build a culture of excellence, and lead staff with programs and instruction that will engage and meet the needs of APU students;
- Models and assists team in elaborating and modifying to meet the requirement of the Common Core Curriculum and the needs of the individual learners;
- Assumes managerial duties including but not limited to: timetabling, assigning and coverage of teacher absence;
- Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with the BoDs, Principal, Operations Director, all academic and administrative staff, parents and community partners.

**General Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities**
- Bachelor's degree or above in a Math/ Natural Sciences discipline or Bachelor of education with Math/ Natural Sciences focus;
- Teaching licence/ certificate in the field of Math/Natural Science or similar is required; licensed in the U.S. is an advantage;
- Be familiar with the U.S.’s Common Core Curriculum for Math & Sciences grade 6-12;
- Knowledge of secondary curriculum and instruction standards and best practices;
- At least 2 years teaching experience at high-school;
- Proven leadership skills and experience;
- Passion for quality education and high expectations for all students;
- Be able to engage with young people and develop lesson plans that resonate with them;
- Compassion and a personable manner;
- Resilience and the ability to work with students from multiple backgrounds;
- Excellent in professional, academic and communicational English, English as mother tongue is preferred;
- Show professionalism in all manners of speech, dress, behavior, and social media communication.
