Established in 2004 in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam, APU American International School assists students aspiring to higher education in the US.

The international school operates with the motto "Pathway to US Education" APU American International School offers opportunities to students keen on getting admitted to universities in the US and abroad.


High school English teacher teaches students about English and English art (ELD, ELA), literature, essay composition, and how to use language in powerful ways, following the middle school and high school standardized curriculum.

S/he also teaches classic novels, plays, and poetry to students and helps them analyzing a variety of texts. Besides, s/he prepares students to write their college essays.


Furthermore, teacher assesses English competency of entry-students to APU, making sure their English is competent enough for American high school program taught by English, and place them into appropriate ELD/ELA class that suits their level.


Working language at APU is 100% English, all teaching sessions and study related activities must be conducted with professional English language.


Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the High school English teacher are, but not limited to, the following:

  • Teaching, in an age appropriate way, the English language (ELD, ELA) to children in classes 6-1
  • Reading all prescribed novels, poetry, and additional resources to gain a thorough understanding of them before developing lesson plans and curricula.
  • Collaborating with other English department staff to develop lesson plans, teaching strategies, and interventions.
  • Preparing students for formal and informal assessments.
  • Grading tests, pop quizzes, assignments, exams, and other assessments, and communicating with parents, students, teachers, and counselors regarding underperformance and other concerns.
  • Organizing guest speakers, literary events, and field trips.
  • Keeping abreast of current events and incorporating these events and themes into lessons to make them more relevant to students.
  • Ensuring all curriculum meet all requirements of the Common Core Curriculum.
  • Assessing student needs and providing support or extra resources to struggling students as well as exceptional achievers.
  • Using technology to improve lesson delivery and recordkeeping.
  • Expanding teacher networks and participating in workshops, lectures, and other learning opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain effective communication with parents and/or guardians.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator

Required Qualifications, Experiences and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in English, English literature, or a similar discipline; a master's degree is preferable;
  • A relevant certification or license for teaching is required; plus a TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA would be an advantage;
  • A completed apprenticeship or teaching experience is recommended.
  • Be familiar with the US highschool education, especially Common Core Curriculum;
  • Excellent in professional, academic and communicational English, English as mother tongue is preferred
  • A strong interest in literature and language, to enrich the teaching and to inspire students;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Be able to engage with young people and develop lesson plans that resonate with them;
  • Compassion and a personable manner;
  • Resilience and the ability to work with students from multiple backgrounds.
  • The ability to multitask in a highstress environment.
