what3words is currently available in over 50 languages, with each language version being an independent product; i.e. 3 word addresses across languages are not translations of each other.


Over the last year, what3words has been used in 193 countries, and our tech is used by emergency services, delivery companies, eCommerce businesses, ride-hailing apps and NGOs, as well as being integrated into the navigation systems of millions of cars around the world.


About the role


Localisation benefits from thorough, detailed and carefully applied processes, and no more so than at what3words, where a range of different assets and products have varying requirements.


The Senior Localisation Manager will be part of the marketing team (reporting into the Head of Consumer Marketing) and will also work closely with the partner marketing team, product and other teams in the business, as well as with our "supergroup" network of longstanding and trusted freelance translators.


While the what3words product is available in over 50 languages (the majority of which are required for periodic app updates), the core localisation work is on marketing assets, and aside from English, we currently focus on a small number of international markets - Germany, India, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage all translation, localisation and transcreation projects (working within Phrase our Translation Management System (TMS) as appropriate)
  • Act as the point of contact for internal stakeholders when they need to discuss localisation projects or anything involving multilingual or international content, being able to confidently work with them to choose the most appropriate quality level and localisation workflow in different circumstances.
  • Nurture relationships across the company by replying to messages/briefs promptly, and being clear on turnaround times. Either return projects on time/ahead of time, or be clear in advance about the delay, reasons and solutions.
  • Develop a close relationship with the entire freelance language consultant/translator team, maintaining relationships through clear briefs and quick replies to queries. Using your expert eye in translation projects, come up with ways to make their work more efficient and develop the "Favourite Client" ethos.
  • Develop and maintain localisation tool kits, including documentation of key processes and best practice.
  • Ensure localisation best practices are followed, and proactively identify factors that could affect any functionality and product quality.
  • Provide training for and communication for internal stakeholders to further develop companywide expertise on our processes, and more generally around localisation and languages.
  • Keep up to date on localisation news, trends and developments

Skills:

  • Organised and methodical with excellent attention to detail
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships internally and externally
  • Demonstrable passion for languages and culture (perhaps because you speak other languages)
  • Good understanding of, or interest in, marketing and the creative process
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organisation skills, as well as the ability to manage a number of projects simultaneously, with conflicting deadlines, often across multiple time zones and cultures.
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm to get things done

Experience:

  • Previous work experience in a localisation management role, e.g. as a project manager in a translation company or inhouse.
  • Extra credit if you have also worked as a translator
  • Handson experience working with translation management tools and the ability to set up localisation workflows and projects in a TMS
  • Experience working closely with those creating the source English assets to ensure that localisation requirements are considered early in the process
  • Understanding/experience of subtitling would be a bonus

Location
The role is based in our
Ho Chi Minh City office.

While you can work from the office five days a week if preferred, our Languages team can choose to work up to two days a week remotely and three days in the office.

We also offer a six week remote-work allowance; for up to six weeks a year, you can work from anywhere in the world.
