The school is currently looking to recruit a:

Head of Visual Arts (Secondary)

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, qualified and experienced Visual Arts teachers. A minimum of four years' recent experience of teaching Art across the Secondary age range is essential, with a track record of successful departmental leadership and teaching IBDP Visual Arts at Higher Level a distinct advantage.

The Visual Arts at BIS are a vibrant and integral part of school life. Our studios are busy and inclusive places where students engage in creativity at the highest levels, both in and outside of lessons. We thrive as an open and enthusiastically collaborative team of three full-time teachers plus a teaching assistant, working across three specialist studios. We are fantastically resourced in terms of materials and equipment and the art we make with our students is engaging, relevant and exciting.

We understand our role in fulfilling every student's academic potential, but we also care about nurturing a positive experience where involvement in a variety of activities is the norm. These include painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and printmaking. Our curriculum encourages students to connect their artistic learning to other subjects through joint projects with departments such as Science or Performing Arts, and we also make meaningful connections with the local community through a range of projects.

Visual Arts at BIS operate an open studio policy after school and during lunchtime, which gives our students every opportunity to connect and find their space in our enriching and stimulating environment designed to encourage artistic and intellectual enquiry. Art and Design is a popular IB Diploma and IGCSE option and the majority of our students regularly achieve exceptionally high grades.

In Secondary, our students continue with the English National Curriculum at Key Stage 3 in preparation for their IGCSEs and later, the rigorous IB Diploma Programme. Our 2025 cohort of 107 IBDP graduates achieved an average score of 36.4 points, significantly higher than the global average of 30.3 points, with 28% of our students achieving 40 points or more and 1 student achieving a perfect score of 45. Our students are equally successful at IGCSE. Our 2025 cohort of 128 students achieved 69% of grades at A*/A with 97% of our students achieving A* - C in 5 or more subjects and 39 students achieving A*/A grades across all their subjects.

Beyond academics, we have an exceptional enrichment programme with over 100 Co-Curricular activities and expeditions both in Vietnam and globally that help our students overcome challenges, build confidence, create lifelong memories and change to the communities around them.
