Job Description:

Research Areas

1. Current Usage:

● Assess current Tableau usage - identify the level of usage across different Tableau users (self-service consumers of reports;augmented; analysts), the volume of usage of each reports and the type of usage (visualising in tableau, purely downloading for raw data etc.), and the level of utilisation of visualisations and datasets in those reports.

2. Current technical Set-up

● Identify duplication of reports, metric calculations and/or datasets (for example, where could we use the same dataset to underpin multiple reports, or convert multiple reports into one).

● Identify unused or under-used reports and why

● Identify brittle, undocumented, or high-risk dependencies in Tableau dashboards—particularly those tightly coupled to Redshift

3. User Needs

● Engage with current high-frequency consumers to understand their usage of Tableau

● Engage with other users in the same domain who do not use Tableau (or use it rarely).

● Engage with analysts to understand how they use Tableau

Deliverables

Needs

● A list of jobs to be done / problems to be solved that are currently addressed by Tableau

● An assessment of how well Tableau does meet these needs

● A list of any jobs to be done / problems to be solved that we would like a reporting / data viz tool to handle that Tableau doesn't currently support.

Needs - Technical

● A list of the core dimensions and measures required by business users on a recurrent basis (so the types of things that we traditionally surface in reports and dashboards rather than through ad-hoc analysis)

● A minimum viable suite of reports necessary to service those requirements (even in a world where all questions could be answered through self-service, I assume that there will always be a place for core reports like Metrics That Matter).

● A minimum viable suite of data assets required to drive those requirements (e.g. we need a revenue table which can be used by reports a, b and c and self-serve requirement x, y and z).

Migration

● Highlight Redshift-dependent reports with high brittleness, undocumented logic, or legacy structures

● Estimate the Tableau-specific work required to migrate reporting from Redshift to Snowflake-based marts.

● Identify how well Tableau aligns with our new data platform e.g., support for centralized metrics, data governance, and user self-service via modeled marts

Requirements
:

• At least 4 years of relevant experience
• Good written and verbal communication, in English
• Hands-on Tableau expertise
• Stakeholder engagement - ability to work with a broad spectrum of stakeholders (technical, non-technical, analytics, etc)
• Deep understanding of the analytics and BI workflow, including how tools like Tableau fit into data discovery, exploration, and communication—not just static reporting.
• Understanding of modern data architecture e.g. familiarity with semantic layers, modeled data marts, and centralized metrics governance
• Data asset analysis and rationalisation - experience in assessing existing datasets for redundancy, alignment, and reusability, and in designing minimum viable data subject areas
• Experience working in domains with event-level data, behavioral metrics, or large-scale product telemetry.
• Requirements gathering and analysis
• Change management and migration planning
• Capable of defining tool assessment criteria for future vendor/platform reviews
