The Role
This position has responsibility for the ongoing implementation of the RMIT Child Safe Framework and embedding this into practice across RMIT Vietnam, including providing key policy and procedure guidance, secondary consultation and facilitating a working group of key stakeholders. This work will support RMIT’s overall commitment to Child Safety as a global, multi-sector education provider and as a provider registered to deliver education to younger overseas students. The position has a dual role with both strategic and operational requirements:
1. Provide a secondary consult University-wide in relation to child safety matters and,
2. Establish student facing service as a key contact point for students who are under 18 years old, providing support and options for child-focused reporting mechanisms.
Your Responsibilities- Develop an on-going plan which addresses U18 year old cohort specific risks in programs, courses and activities associated with the University and promotes child safety to all areas of RMIT including within and external to the teaching and research endeavors of the University, student groups and clubs.- Develop and provide coordination of a Child Safe Working Group in conjunction with key roles across the University to ensure the on-going implementation of RMIT’s Child Safe Framework.- Contribute to a centralised register relating to all child safe concerns, risks and compliance gaps.- Contribute to governance reporting to establish a child safety presence in scheduled annual reports.- Work with the staff and student communication teams to establish a communication strategy ensuring all RMIT stakeholders are aware of the rights of children and young people and staff- responsibilities as outlined in RMIT policies and procedures.- Provide feedback in policy reviews to ensure a child safety presence in all policy documents.- Maintain a program of education and training materials (including developing web content and support materials; develop/curate e-learning and face to face professional training) addressing child- safety matters.- Monitor and report on training program delivery progress, identifying opportunities for improvement and integration of feedback.- Acts as a secondary consultant to any specialist staff (counsellors, case workers) supporting an U18 student at RMIT who is impacted by child abuse and provide support and advice to any staff who- may have concerns about students under the age of 18.- Maintain up to date knowledge of changes to Vietnam’s child protection legislation and embed the changes in practices of the University.
Skills and Experience- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with subsequent relevant experience, or at least 5 years of experience in a similar role within the relevant field such as education and or training- Significant understanding of the challenges and vulnerabilities faced by different cohorts of U18 prospective and current students and the ability to incorporate this, framed by the legislative requirements into a program of work to ensure RMIT meets its commitments as outlined in the RMIT Child Safe Framework.- Ability to identify and minimise potential risks in the arrangements of care and welfare for younger students, including matters that can affect personal safety, wellbeing, and academic progress.- Demonstrated capacity to plan a program of engagement; develop and update education and awareness materials and review professional training and instructional documentation based on consultation with the RMIT Melbourne and RMIT Vietnam campuses.
