To this end, we are seeking an experienced Tool Developer who can join our team and help pave the way towards our new goals.
- About the position- WHAT YOU WILL DO

Report to: Game Development Director
- Sparx’s TD is responsible for developing & maintaining the various custom tools in our art production pipeline, game development pipeline, real-time cinematic pipeline... to name a few. Your tools will bridge the gaps between DCC software, game middleware, game engines & production management platforms. They will enable game production to happen more seamlessly & effectively by enhancing automation, reducing friction between different departments, and minimizing human errors.
- This position reports to our Lead Developer and may receive specific mentoring from our Game Development Director
- While we’re working on diversified types of entertainment content, you’ll mostly interact with video games projects. You’ll gradually become familiar with our production workflows & technical pipelines. However, we expect you to be already familiar with popular commercial game engines like Unreal and/or Unity.
- Being a Tool Developer at Sparx offers a high degree of interaction with a variety of people (Art Directors, Team Leaders, Producers, Artists, to name a few), and the opportunity to work on many world-renowned AAA games
- Responsibilities
- Develops & maintains the various custom tools in our art production pipeline, game development pipeline, real-time cinematic pipeline.
- Works under the supervision of the Lead Developer and in tight collaboration with other Tools Developers & Technical Artists.
- Configures and adapts proprietary tools, client tools, or other existing tools depending on projects’ needs.
- Deploys customers tools, manages data transfers, and connects customers’ systems with ours.
- Constantly looking to optimize artists’ workflow by helping them solve technical issues and automate repetitive tasks.
- Qualifications
- Formal education in programming:

- Strong scripting skills on Python
- Can use Pyside to create a GUI
- Good Java script skills, as well as SQL and Qt
- Decent skills in C++ and C#
- Basic notions in network programming
- Willing to work in the 3D industry, animation and video games, and to act as a support for our teams of Artists
- Enjoys working in a team: though in a small team, he will code tools and implement solutions to support bigger teams of 3D Artists and Animators
- Decent conversational English level (speaking and listening)
- Excellent English level when it comes to reading: must be able to understand software specifications written in English, and to interpret written briefs from customers.
- Excellent communication skills: must be able to share ideas, explain problems, and to receive feedback and suggestions on the work done
- Must be careful, organized, proactive, and willing to help.
- Flexible and willing to learn.
- Motivation, good at self-learning, combine old techs to create a new one
- Procedural thinking, design tools to automate massive tasks
- Can write tools for Maya/unreal or Unity is a plus
