Hanoi, Vietnam US Defense POWMIA Accounting Agency Full time

**Duties**:
Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:

- Provides on-site professional linguistic support to the Commander, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) DET 2, and by extension, those personnel and organizational entities integral to the pursuit of DPAA's mission in the SRV.
- Assists and facilitates in the research of English and Vietnamese language materials to develop investigative leads.
- Provides accurate and prompt interpretation of verbal communications from Vietnamese into English and vice versa for contracts, for negotiation talking points, for witness interviews, for military terminology, and for geographical locations.
- Ensures accurate and effective translation of all English language correspondence and documentation.
- Provides direct oversight to the Operations NCO in the execution of all details emanating from the JFA synchronization matrix.
- Performs casualty resolution specialist duties for the detachment that include leading field investigations, escorting Vietnamese witnesses to adjacent countries.

- U.S. Citizenship is required
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary/trial period
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment
- Required to participate in the direct deposit program
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance
- Incumbent may occasionally be required to travel domestically and internationally away from the normal duty station for official business on military or commercial aircraft
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government passport and be willing to travel domestically and internationally
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a US State driver's license
- Incumbent is required to take a pre-employment and annual physical examination (Parts I and II) and must be physically qualified for the position
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) rating of Reading 3/Listening 3/Spoken 4 or higher for Vietnamese is required
- Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
- Defense National Relocation Program will not be authorized.

**Qualifications**:
A.Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study - the appropriate foreign language (Vietnamese) from an English-speaking college or university, English from a college or university in the other country, or translating or interpreting where English and the foreign language were prerequisites.

**OR**
B. Experience: Experience in translating, interpreting, or other work requiring the use of English and the other language; or a combination of work (that required English and the other language) and training at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Service Institute, or comparable training

**You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirements**:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your experience in:
- Translating English and Vietnamese to interpret and review a wide range of material; and,
- Interpret verbal communications in English or Vietnamese languages to accurately convey the intent of the originator; and,
- Acting as a liaison between individuals or companies with diverse backgrounds and varying interests.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
