And as the Senior Technical Product Developer (Furniture), you'll provide valuable engineering solutions to the design and construction of furniture.


Why We Need You:


As a Technical Product Developer, you'll be focused on creating commercially viable, manufacturable prototypes and complete product information technical package (PINFO).


This includes the evaluation and approval of product design concepts, construction specifications, and the completion of a full Technical Package, all in an effort to ensure Article products can be commercially manufactured consistently, providing value engineering options, to meet or exceed margin and profitability targets and relentlessly unlocking value for the Article customer.


You will partner closely with Product Design during the Design Concept stage to provide construction advice and value engineering options.

As well as working closely in partnership with the manufacturing vendor and the Article Manufacturing and Quality teams to ensure that safety, durability, and reliability are engineered into the product.


In addition, you will manage, communicate, and educate internal partners and external vendors in all technical design and construction details to achieve the consistent execution of the original Design intent.

What You'll Do:

You'll be part of the Product Development team and partner closely with Quality and Manufacturing to develop corrective action plans and solve construction/design issues.


  • Produce and manage all technical and engineering related documentation to create a detailed PINFO (Product Info) package for all existing and new furniture products.
  • Provide value engineering solutions and guidance related to construction/design issues and develop corrective action plans and options partnering closely with Product Design, Quality & Manufacturing.
  • Assemble proto samples for product engineering review and design integrity assessment and approval.
  • Review and approve assembly instructions for accuracy, format, and language.
  • Work closely with the Industrial Engineering team, Manufacturing, Quality, Warehouse, ADT and other Engineering members on final product structure as it relates to cost effective product protection (packaging and handling).
  • Daily communication and provide technical expertise to our internal teams and external vendors on product construction.
  • Develop value engineering options to improve existing products from a quality, construction, functionality, ease of assembly, etc., while being cost conscious to offer the most value to the Article customer.
  • Provide technical construction recommendations to correct product failures supporting Quality and Manufacturing teams.
  • Keep abreast of new developments, materials, or processes for use in new products or adaptations to current products.
  • Partner with the Manufacturing team in developing manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment. Looking for ways to reduce complexity in Product Design.
  • Drive the development of Article construction methods to support the standardization of construction, parts and components across the catalogue in partnership with Manufacturing.
  • Build and own Article's Construction DNA, producing a robust and complete Construction manual for internal and external use.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Typically 8 to 10 years of related experience in furniture (casegoods, upholstery and outdoor furniture).
  • Thorough understanding of engineering theory and design criteria with strong ability to read and interpret industrial design and engineering drawings.
  • Use of project management software such as Wrike or PLM to set and manage product development timelines.
  • Deep industry knowledge of construction methods, materials, techniques, and production systems. Knowledge of wood species, substrates, veneers, and finishes.
  • Experience in DFM (Design for Manufacture) and NPI (New Product Introduction)
  • Participate and contribute to rapid continuous improvement. Effective analytical and problemsolving skills.
