Data Analyst

About the Role

As part of our transition from Redshift to Snowflake and the introduction of a semantic layer with modeled data marts, we are undertaking a comprehensive assessment of our current Tableau environment.

We are looking for an experienced specialist to evaluate our existing Tableau ecosystem, uncover improvement opportunities, and determine the effort required to migrate to Snowflake-based sources.

This role plays a critical part in shaping our future BI and reporting strategy—by helping us understand what exists today, how we use it, and where we can deliver more value.

Key Responsibilities

1. Current Usage Assessment

• Analyse Tableau usage across the organization including user types (self-service, augmented users, analysts), report consumption patterns, and use of visualisations vs raw data downloads.
• Assess usage at both the org-wide and domain level (Finance, Product, Marketing, People, CS, AS).
• Identify highly complex use cases, especially event-level and product-behaviour analytics.

2. Technical Environment Review

• Identify report duplication, metric inconsistencies, and overlapping datasets.
• Detect unused or under-used reports and determine if they should be retired, merged, or improved.
• Surface brittle, undocumented, or high-risk dashboard dependencies—particularly those tightly coupled to Redshift.
• Evaluate opportunities for consolidation into streamlined datasets or combined reports.

3. User Research & Needs Analysis

• Conduct interviews with high-frequency Tableau consumers to understand satisfaction levels, gaps, and desired improvements.
• Engage with non-Tableau users within the same domain to learn why they don't use the tool and what alternatives they prefer.
• Work with analysts to understand Tableau's role in their workflow (exploration vs reporting) and how a semantic layer or modeled marts would change their experience.
• Identify unmet needs and preferred methods of consuming or analysing data.

4. Deliverables

• Jobs-to-be-done catalogue of problems Tableau currently solves, categorized by analytical type (operational, diagnostic, exploratory).
• Assessment of how well Tableau meets current needs and a list of unmet requirements.
• Definition of core dimensions & measures required regularly by business users.
• Proposal for a minimum viable suite of core reports and minimum viable data assets powering them.
• Identification of brittle or legacy Redshift-dependent dashboards.
• Effort estimation and approach for migrating Tableau reporting to Snowflake-based marts.
• Evaluation of Tableau's alignment with a modern data platform (semantic layer, centralized metrics, governance, self-service).

Qualifications

Required

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Hands-on expertise with Tableau (Server/Cloud, Desktop, data sources, metadata).
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Deep understanding of analytics & BI workflows, including data exploration, visualization, and communication.
• Solid understanding of modern data architecture: semantic layers, modeled marts, centralized metrics.
• Experience in data asset assessment, rationalisation, and designing minimum viable data subject areas.
• Experience working with complex, high-volume datasets such as event-level product telemetry or behavioural analytics.

Nice to Have

• Requirements gathering & business analysis experience.
• Experience with Snowflake, Redshift, SQL optimisation, or data modeling.
• Background in product analytics or large-scale data environments.
