Viet Nam's current social-economic model contributes to high carbon emissions and environmental degradation, while increasing disaster risks and undermining opportunities for sustainable development: The country is at a critical juncture where policy choices on infrastructure, energy, urbanization, production and consumption will shape the success of its transition towards green, low-emission and climate-resilient development. Environmental degradation and pollution continue to impact livelihood opportunities and people's health.

On the ground in about 170 countries and territories, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works to eradicate poverty while protecting the planet. We help countries develop strong policies, skills, partnerships and institutions so they can sustain their progress.

UNDP - Viet Nam partnership officially started in 1978. Since then UNDP has been working closely with the Government and other partners to expand the choices for people and ensure that everyone has equal access to opportunities to realize their full potentials.

Viet Nam’s current socio-economic model contributes to high carbon emissions and environmental degradation, while increasing disaster risks and undermining opportunities for sustainable development: Viet Nam ranks 25th (2018) in terms of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) and without changes to its carbon - intensive growth trajectory, Viet Nam will continue to be a major regional GHG emitter. The rapid increase of GHG emissions is attributable to the large portion of fossil fuel-based energy in the country’s energy mix, increased industrialization, and urbanization. The primary driver limiting green growth is the country’s high reliance on fossil fuel energy, high energy intensity industries, and high per capita carbon emis sions.The country is at a critical juncture where policy choices on infrastructure, energy, urbanization, production and consumption will shape the success of its transition towards green, low-emission and climate-resilient development. Environmental degradation and pollution continue to impact livelihood opportunities and people’s health.

Viet Nam is particularly vulnerable to climate change and already impacted by more irregular and intense climate variability and change, and is among the top ten countries in the world most affected by natural disasters and extreme weather events. The increasingly exposure of people and economic assets has been and will continue to be the major cause of long-term increases in economic losses from weather
- and climate
- related disasters.

By 2026, people in Viet Nam, especially those at risk of being left behind, will benefit from, and contribute to safer and cleaner environment resulting from effective mitigation and adaptation to climate change, disaster risk reduction and resilience building, promotion of circular economy, clean and renewable energy, and the sustainable management of natural resources.
- Innovative and resilience-building solutions introduced to reduce risks from disasters and climate change, health impacts, and to enhance livelihoods for vulnerable people.
- Policies and solutions designed and implemented for transformation to low-carbon development, circular economy and environmental protection
- Gender-responsive, sustainable and innovative solutions and practices in natural resources, biodiversity conservation and nature-based tourism adopted.

The project “Scaling-up Integrated and Inclusive Waste Management Models through Empowering the Informal Sector and Fostering the Circular Economy” (DWP5C phase 2) has been implemented in Binh Dinh province. The project’s objective is to deploy and test a range of interventions including on the ground support interventions for IWWs, a sector-focused WM model in fisheries, and an ecosystem-level approach at innovating the value chain through a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), and then refining these models based upon the deployment and learning with a view to continued and scaled-up deployment supported by a programme of capacity development and knowledge creation, sharing and dissemination.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Under overall guidance and direct supervision of the CCE Media and Communication Analyst, the National Intern is expected to undertake the following activities:

- Design communication products for the CCE’s projects, especially the DWP5C phase 2 project and the CE Hub, including but not limited to infographics, research/knowledge papers, ppt presentations, reports, invitations, backdrop
