Footwear Product Creation

In short

Your key responsibility is to be a cultural connector, communicator, and steward of On in the sourcing and manufacturing environment.

You make critical product development decisions on behalf of all stakeholders to ensure samples are of premium quality and delivered on-time in strict accordance with Brand’s design expectations and specifications in direct partnership with the factory development team.

You have a background in the craft of making sport specific footwear (preferably running) and have experience working in a Brand environment and a Sourcing organization.

You have a breadth of experience to positively influence the design for manufacturing process and are an expert project manager.

You are comfortable with ambiguity and through an entrepreneurial mindset solve problems quickly, confidently, and in a very fast paced business environment.

Your mission

Foster a creative work environment with seamless communication and collaboration between internal teams and external partners, ensuring that project objectives and timelines are met effectively.

Direct link between the Zurich and Portland development hubs, Sourcing, and the factories across Asia to ensure faster product creation, increased collaboration and consumer-centric manufacturing.

Represent the special projects development point of view with the T1 & T2 suppliers.

Engage appropriately in all phases of the product process to ensure projects are completed on time, can be commercialised, manufactured, while meeting design intent, performance, costing and sustainability goals.

Collaborate with development centre teams to develop innovative footwear concepts that align with project briefs and On’s priorities.

Ensure the quality standards of On and its external partners are met during the development and commercialization phases.

Partner with design to create tech-packs, translating their vision to T1 suppliers, offering technical guidance and performance construction solutions to ensure products are built to withstand required briefs and consumer demands.

Communicate directly with your key counterparts in Zurich and Portland to translate timelines and feasibility of design. A background in creating Engineered Mesh is critical.

identify and source appropriate materials that meet design and performances requirements, achieve quality standards and can be added to our material toolboxes

Work closely with the Fit & Wear Testing team to ensure products are going through relevant testing in preparation for commercialisation.

Analyse lab test results and deliver solutions to meet the mandatory lab standards if required.

Support the communication between our sourcing partners to ensure a smooth and precise information flow.

Collaborate with factory groups on process, communication and manufacturing optimization.

Manage multiple projects and seasons simultaneously in different development centres by establishing and communicating clear project timelines, milestones and deliverables from concept to final product.

Analyse cost drivers early in the process and support your costing partner in product cost calculations to achieve margin.

Arrange and lead the tear down of your projects with your production counterparts.

Your story

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.

3+ years of experience in the industry, specialising in Product Development.

2+ years working on the brand side of product creation where you have experience partnering with design, product marketing, colour and materials

Proven track record of successful launched footwear products.

Experience with Agile Creation and speed-to-market calendars

Advanced knowledge of the product development process (footwear and material construction, technology, textile manufacturing, prototyping).

Experience with shoe making, manufacturing, fit and wear testing and performance sport demands for product creation.

Good understanding of the key elements necessary to bring a product from development to mass production.

Understanding of costing principles

Determination and passion; you are an explorer who challenges the status quo and is eager to learn and explore.

Strong communication skills (verbal & written) as well as the ability to communicate across all levels of the organisation and to manage several projects in various stages.

Strong IT skills (MS office, PLM, CAD)

Language Skills: Fluency in English, knowledge in Vietnamese and Chinese and other language is a plus

This position is based in Ho Chi Minh Vietnam but involves travelling to Zurich, Portland, the north of Vietnam and other suppliers across Asia.

Meet the team

As an integral part of our team, you will collaborate directly with our Sourcing and Factory partners in Vietnam to develop premium footwear solutions with an agile approach to product creation.

The special project team is highly agile, working closely with our design, products strategy and inline product creation teams in Zurich and Portland as well as our brand partners. You will play a pivotal role in the commercialization process of special projects by ensuring the high level of quality and detail expected by our brand partners and the corresponding speed to market. You will have a main role in driving the understanding of our T1 and T2 suppliers when considering the importance of special projects for On.
