Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central / NAV Technical Consultant (Senior Level)

Experience Level:

8+ years of experience in Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Business Central technical development and solution implementation.

Job Summary:

The
Senior Technical Consultant
will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing customizations, integrations, and technical solutions within
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC)
or
Dynamics NAV
environments. This role demands a seasoned professional who can translate business requirements into technical designs, provide technical leadership, and ensure best practices across development, deployment, and support.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Development & Customization

• Design, develop, and implement custom modules, reports, and extensions in
  Business Central / NAV
  using
  AL, C/AL, C/SIDE
  , and
  Visual Studio Code
  .
• Create and maintain APIs, web services, and integrations with external systems (e.g., CRM, Power BI, third-party applications).
• Upgrade and migrate legacy NAV systems to Business Central (on-premises or cloud).
• Develop and deploy extensions in
  AppSource-compliant
  architecture (modern development environment).
• Optimize system performance and ensure scalability of customized solutions.

2. Solution Design & Implementation

• Work with functional consultants and business stakeholders to understand business processes and translate them into technical specifications.
• Participate in solution architecture design, ensuring alignment with Microsoft's best practices.
• Support full implementation lifecycle — requirement analysis, technical design, development, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support.
• Configure and customize Business Central modules (Finance, SCM, Manufacturing, etc.) as per business needs.

3. Integration & Data Management

• Design and build data migration strategies and tools (RapidStart, Power Automate, or custom scripts).
• Develop and maintain integrations between Business Central and other enterprise systems using APIs, OData, and Azure services.
• Work with Power Platform components such as
  Power BI
  ,
  Power Automate
  , and
  Power Apps
  to extend Business Central capabilities.

4. Technical Leadership & Governance

• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior developers and technical support staff.
• Establish and enforce coding standards, version control, and release management practices.
• Conduct code reviews, performance tuning, and ensure system security compliance.
• Contribute to solution documentation, technical design documents, and knowledge repositories.

5. Support & Maintenance

• Provide Level 2/3 technical support for Business Central/NAV systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application and performance issues in production and UAT environments.
• Coordinate with Microsoft Support for escalated technical issues.
• Ensure timely application of updates, cumulative patches, and system upgrades.

Required Skills & Competencies:

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in AL, C/AL, C/SIDE, and Visual Studio Code (for BC development).
• Strong understanding of Business Central/NAV architecture, tables, pages, reports, and code units.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Git repositories, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of SQL Server, SSRS, and data modeling.
• Familiarity with Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps).
• Integration experience using Web Services (SOAP/REST), APIs, JSON, XML.
• Understanding of Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory, and cloud deployments.

Education & Certifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
• Dynamics 365 Business Central Developer Associate (MB-820)
  (preferred)
• Dynamics NAV Developer Certification (legacy)
• Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (optional but advantageous).

Additional Preferred Experience:

• Experience with Business Central SaaS (cloud) deployments and extensions.
• Exposure to AppSource packaging and submission process.
• Understanding of Agile / Scrum methodologies.
• Previous experience in consulting or implementation partner environments.
