playSTUDIOS is looking for a Backend Engineer for our growing AI department, with a strong engineering and DevOps mindset, who's eager to grow into a role focused on ML systems. You'll design and maintain backend services for hosting models, serving predictions at low latency, and supporting modern AI infrastructure. This is an ideal role for someone excited about performance, scalability, and working at the intersection of software engineering and machine learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own Backend Services for AI:
  Design and implement backend systems for hosting ML models, exposing prediction endpoints, and handling inference at scale.
• Build Real-Time APIs:
  Develop high-performance APIs using
  FastAPI
  or modern frameworks (e.g., Ray serve), delivering real-time predictions with low latency.
• Deploy & Monitor Services:
  Use
  Kubernetes, Docker
  ,
  CI/CD pipelines
  , and infrastructure-as-code tools to deploy and manage services in production.
• Scale with AWS:
  Work with AWS services like
  EC2
  ,
  Lambda
  ,
  AppRunner
  ,
  S3
  ,
  SQS
  ,
  CloudWatch
  ,
  Load Balancers
  , and more.
• Optimize for Performance:
  Ensure responsiveness, uptime, and efficiency through profiling, tuning, and scalable architecture design.
• Enable ML in Production:
  Collaborate with data scientists to deploy models into real-time environments and ensure monitoring, logging, and versioning.
• Lead DevOps Integration:
  Partner with DevOps to ensure robust CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure automation.
• Build Foundational Tools:
  Develop reusable backend components and tools for data science use cases beyond model inference—such as feature serving or event-based triggers.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 3–6 years of experience as a backend engineer or full-stack developer with strong infrastructure ownership.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Proven experience working with
  Python
  (FastAPI or similar),
  Docker
  , and cloud infrastructure (preferably
  AWS
  ).
• Familiarity with
  CI/CD pipelines
  , server provisioning, logging frameworks, and performance profiling tools.
• Experience deploying and maintaining scalable APIs and services, especially those powering ML/AI or data-driven functionality.
• Bonus: Exposure to
  model serving frameworks
  ,
  vector databases
  ,
  RAG pipelines
  , or other ML/GenAI technologies.
• Strong knowledge of system design, network protocols, and real-time service architecture.
• Comfortable collaborating with DevOps, Data Scientists, and cross-functional product teams.
• Excited to grow into an MLE role by learning model lifecycle, observability, and AI/ML best practices in production.
