About the role:

We are looking for a senior PHP/Laravel engineer to join our existing development team. The successful candidate will work closely with our stakeholders to ensure the smooth delivery of the various APIs that power our products.

This position is ideal for a candidate that is comfortable working with an existing product and codebase and has expert-level knowledge of PHP, Laravel & MySQL. A core requirement is building performant APIs that handle complex entity relationships and business logic between discrete services.

Day-to-day duties:

  • Design, develop and maintain RESTful APIs for our iOS, Android & web applications.
  • Integrate with third party platforms such as payment gateways, logistic management systems and accounting packages.
  • Develop with security, reliability and backwards compatibility in mind.
  • Work closely with the entire development team to ensure our APIs provide the functionality that our applications require.
  • Identify the best tools, libraries and processes for each task.
  • Constantly improve code quality through the creation of unit/functional tests, automation and code reviews.
  • Participate in team brainstorming sessions to contribute innovate and original ideas that shape our technology, algorithms and products.

About you:

  • At least five years of experience in a similar development role (at least three years working specifically with PHP & Laravel).
  • Expect-level understanding of concepts such as caching, queuing, rate limiting and distributed locking.
  • Strong experience working with databases including MySQL, Mongo & Redis.
  • Strong experience writing unit tests and utilising mocking to write end-to-end integration tests.
  • Focused on ensuring consistency and quality within monolithic codebases.
  • Experience with Git and GitHub.
  • Experience with containerised PHP/Laravel applications & AWS ECS is highly desirable.
  • Experience with application load balancers is desirable.
