UNIS Hanoi - Position Description

Division: Mother Tongue Teacher (Japanese) - Part time (20%)

Position: Middle School

Reports to: Secondary Principal

Purpose and scope of role:

  • Teach Japanese in the UNIS Middle School during school hours. Mother-tongue programmes

should aim to develop students' language and literacy skills in their mother tongue to their full

potential.

  • UNIS will provide a classroom space and require the mother-tongue teacher to meet the

professional expectations in place at UNIS. The Japanese parent community is responsible for

the contract with the Japanese teacher and pays a tuition fee to the Japanese teacher in

accordance with the negotiated contract.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and develop language and literacy skills in Japanese
  • Provide education based on the students' current levels based on diagnostic and ongoing

evaluation of each student's language ability

  • Complete a report card grade and comment for the student in the mother-tongue class, according

to UNIS report card procedures

Position Requirements:

  • University graduate (Languages preferred) - Japanese is the first language
  • MYP/DP experience an asset
  • Knowledge of child development
  • 2 years experience teaching languages
  • Cross-cultural exposure and understanding
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
