**Job overview**:

- This role would be working primarily in the Prep School but may require some work in the Senior School._

In partnership and in consultation with the Head of EAL, the EAL Teacher will focus on aspects of the areas below at any one time.

**Responsibilities**:

- Teaching, Learning & Curriculum:_
- Work closely with pupils who have been assigned as needing support in an area of English language.
- Support pupils in mainstream classes.
- Teach or support pupils through out-of-mainstream class small group and one-to-one intervention.
- Planning and / or co-planning of lessons that ensure blended EAL support, learner skills and curriculum provision are core aims.
- Develop EAL resources for shared use with pupils, class teachers, the department or home.
- Consult with teachers to enhance EAL provision.
- Monitor and track the progress of pupils on the EAL Register through a range of formative and summative assessment activities.
- Continual and proactive monitoring of all pupils and assist with investigations of pupils who might require EAL support.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and share pupil progress information with the EAL team in a timely manner.
- Involving pupils, parents and colleagues in the learners’ EAL journey on a regular basis and as appropriate.
- Supporting Prep-EAL pupils beyond the classroom with CCAs, implementation of independent learning tasks or creation of activities or competitions.
- Work closely with the Head of EAL and other stakeholders to ensure the needs of the pupils are known and supported.
- The EAL Team_
- Attend and contribute to internal College meetings as required.
- Attend and contribute to EAL departmental meetings.
- Attend training sessions.
- Support the Head of EAL with the development and implementation of EAL INSET and ongoing professional development and training for staff. Lead training sessions where possible.
- Contribute to the writing and updates of department documentation, such as assessment data, pupil log records or policies, as required.
- Support the team to ensure referrals from staff are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner to ensure effective assessment and intervention.
- Ensure that the learning environment and display areas in the EAL department are well-maintained.
- Model the Brighton College Vietnam values every day.

**Requirements**:
The successful applicant is expected to have the following skills, abilities, knowledge and experience.
- General Requirements:_
- Bachelor’s Degree and A certified teaching qualification (i.e. PGCE), or Bachelor's Degree in Education.
- A TEFL/EAL relevant teaching qualification is desirable. This is in additional to the above teaching qualification.
- EAL teaching experience - preference to teaching pupils aged between 3 - 11 years.
- Previous experience in a 5-18 British curriculum school is desirable.

- Knowledge & Experience:_
- Extensive knowledge and experience of working with young children and EAL.

- Supervising the children at break/lunch and other unstructured times.
- Ensuring that the children are safe and secure at all times.
