General Accountant

- PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF ROLE

The purpose of the General Accountant role is to assist the Chief Accountant in the Accounting Department’s daily operations. The scope of the role also includes auditing revenue documentation, preparing the monthly Financial Package, research, analysis, interpreting tax legislation (local and international), preparing and submitting compliance returns / tax forms, and maintaining the General Ledger.
- TASKS:

- Accounting
- Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information
- Prepare journal entries for closing the books on a monthly basis.
- Maintain a daily log of specific package charges.
- Prepare monthly bank account reconciliation.
- Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account inform
- Summarizes current financial status.
- Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
- Secure financial information by completing data base backups.
- Check authorized Petty Cash/payment Vouchers and submit for reimbursement weekly
- Prepare and recommend policies and procedures
- Check weekly record of cash overages and shortages of General Cashier.
- Close all books by the 5th working day of the subsequent month.
- Assist internal and external auditors
- Assist the Chief Accountant with projects and reports.
- Monitor and cross-check the work of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Purchasing.
- Tax Accountancy
- Monitor the budget, budget backlog, Company's VAT reimbursement
- Raise relevant taxation documentation for new investments / projects
- Research, analyse and interpret new tax legislation
- Provide guidance to senior management on tax related matters
- Reporting
- Prepare the balance sheet, profit and loss statement on a monthly basis
- Prepare monthly variance analysis reports between budgeted and actual figures
- Prepares trip/weekly reports for distribution.
- Reconcile work-in-progress assets on a monthly basis.
- Maintain the capital expenditure control log.
- People Management
- Monthly meetings with direct reports
- Motivate and inspire the direct reports to achieve company goals, team and individual targets
- Monitor performance of direct reports and team and address any issues
- Conduct bi-annual performance reviews for direct reports
- Coach and develop direct reports
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify areas for continual improvement across Accounting
- Attend regular training courses / seminars to keep up to date with the industry and global trends
- Keep others informed by sharing information.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Tertiary studies in accounting, finance or economics
- Knowledge of Accounting/Finance

EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 years working experience
- Preferable experience working Tourism industry
- Accounting experience essential (in a similar role and industry preferable)

SKILLS
- Good written and spoken English
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (particularly MS Excel)
- Good communication, analytical and organizational skills
- Critical thinking skills
