In collaboration with sourcing and vendor partners, the raw materials team transforms design concepts into reality, researches new raw material solutions, and develops têxtiles, leather and hard materials, colour and finishes that our customers love, while meeting Article’s quality and compliance standards and in line with Article’s sustainability and environmental responsibility goals.

The Raw Materials Developer will connect closely with the Design, Product Development, Product Management, Product Operations, Quality, Planning and Sourcing teams, as well as the external vendor partners in order to successfully deliver new products.

You’ll do all this while growing your skills within a company that is redefining the furniture industry.

**What You’ll Do**:
**Research and Development**
- Develop and standardize all wood, metal, stone, plastic and composite qualities and finishes across manufacturing partners to meet the determined technical and quality standards that are appropriate to deliver the highest level of customer satisfaction, while ensuring alignment to Article’s product and sourcing strategy
- To ensure timely completion of material DNA profiles and full material technical specifications
- Work with the design and product development teams to establish and develop stain and color standards for Article and establish custom Article stain and dye formulas where appropriate.
- Partner with Quality team to develop testing protocols for all hard material types, enroll manufacturers and govern adherence
- Set shade bands to support the bulk approval process
- Manage swatch submissions for approval
- Ability to interpret the designer and product developer needs and communicate effectively and efficiently with all vendor partners
- Partner with Sourcing, Paint Suppliers and Finished Goods Vendors to explore new technologies and innovations that cut cost, improve quality/consistency, manufacturing efficiencies or execute a new design technique
- Provide input into Raw Materials Strategy and Roadmap for commercialization

**Progress Tracking**
- Course correct projects that fall behind schedule. Create and communicate a plan for these situations that outlines the action plan of the specific project, partnering with the cross functional teams as required.
- Collaborate with the product development, sourcing, and costing teams to ensure the product is meeting cost objectives along the development timeline, while problem solving and decision making as required
- Ensure that raw material developments are completed in line with the GTM calendar and launch dates

**Communicate**
- Communicate and implement process improvement plans at both the vendor and internal product creation team level, sharing best practices and expertise
- Ability to build strong relationships and rapport with the paint suppliers and finished goods vendors, understanding and leveraging their capabilities
- Liaise will vendor partners during pre production and production phases to provide technical advice and problem solve where appropriate
- Ability to make a commercial judgment on marginal situations

**Who You Are**:

- University/College Degree in Raw Materials or Furniture Manufacturing or proven industry experience
- 5+ years in the furniture industry with a working knowledge of hardline materials (wood, metal, stone etc.)
- Experience working directly for casegoods furniture manufacturers and/or paint suppliers
- Strong technical knowledge gained in a manufacturing environment covering all areas of materials from wood, metal, stone and other hard material construction and finishes
- Strong knowledge of industry testing standards/test reports
- Strong knowledge of cross-functional team accountabilities and requirements, including design, sourcing, and quality assurance
- Accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment with a dynamic workflow
- To maintain current knowledge on vendors and industry developments to deliver material and finish technical innovation opportunities to set Article apart from its competitors
- A deep interest in modern furniture, décor and interior design
- A clear understanding of critical path or Go-To-Market methodology with the ability to create Time and Action (T&A) calendars t
